Dear Virtual Academy Families,
Welcome to 2nd grade at Brassfield Elementary School! We are so excited to be a part of your child’s education this year. This will be our 4th year team teaching in 2nd grade. We find that the students enjoy having two teachers and benefit from our different teaching styles.
Ms. Allen grew up on a farm in Wake Forest, and received her Bachelor’s degree from NC State. She has been teaching at Brassfield for 9 years. Mrs. Allen has two adult sons who she enjoys going hiking with. She also has a variety of animals including goats, and a donkey!
Mrs. Lanphear received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University, and has been teaching at Brassfield for 14 years. Mrs. Lanphear and her husband have five children, and two grandchildren between them. Mrs. Lanphear enjoys spending time with her family, and traveling to new places.
Before coming to 2nd grade we both taught 5th grade at Brassfield. We love to challenge our students through enrichment in both math and reading! Brassfield 2nd grade is filled with many new learning experiences, opportunities, and responsibilities. Our 2nd graders enjoy learning about fossils, paleontologists, schools around the world, and how pollinators are important to our planet. In math they will learn about place value, how to manipulate numbers, and how to solve multi-step word problems. We are here to help your child reach for the stars and grow both academically and socially this year. We look forward to meeting all of you, and working with you throughout the year!
